Malamute Grey wolf mix?
I just got a male puppy, whose dad was a full grey wolf and mother was a pure bred malamute. I was wondering if anybody had any experiences with these dogs? Pictures of ones you found? Possible name ideas? Hes brown, black and white, very wolfy. Any idea how big hes gonna get? Best answer gets points!
I have been raised with wolf dog hybrids and had one other. Although those were timber wolf malamute dogs. I was asking for the grey wolf specific hybrid. This is no perverted animal. I paid no money for this dog. A friend ended up not being able to keep it and I offered.
The mother of this animal is papered. The father is a slighty domesticated grey wolf. I don’t have any proof but he looks like one, he barks like one, ect. Not that I would care if hes a different breed completely. Im going off information I was given. Its the best I can do. And you need to learn some respect and not to assume you know everything. The best answer might not be the one you want to hear, because your probably going to get some response on this one, but heres my perspective. First of all, Dont let anyone tell you that they are all great , and lovable and you are ok with having one. This is serious buisness and a saftey issue among other things and you need to know the blunt realities of trying to own one of these cross breeds. The person that bred the dog, I seriously doubt has a full bred wolf, but I am not suprised a bit that they may have told you that. Its a common B.S story that many people do to make more money or feel that their “Wolf fantasy” is being fufilled. A pure wolf of any type is illegal to own one in every state I can think of. I dont know of any state that allows more than 75%. But anyway, It will likely be pretty tall. I have had quite a bit of experience (not raising them), but being around them (wolves hybrids) and I used to breed Huskys. One of my best friends has a rescue for wolves and I can tell you this from my experience as well as his: depending on where you live, you may be in violation of ordinances or laws, so if you are unsure about the laws in your area / state, then look into it for your protection. as for the how the dog will turn out socially, it is like rolling the dice. Wolves are very unpredictable and can NOT be trusted around children EVER, NOT EVEN FOR A SECOND. They by their very nature are predators and they have an extremely high kill drive for other animals, including dogs, and livestock. They are beautiful animals, but the reality is that if you are not trained and experienced with them, then I would urge you to get the dog gone. they require double fences and the whole 9 yards. My friend and his wife currently have 5 wolf hybrids and most of them they have had from a very yound age including one being born there and still, of the 5, only 2 of them the husband can go near without risk of being bitten or maulled. His wife can socialize with 4 of them one on one. They are very very “Alpha” aware and being that they naturally all want to be dominant, that puts you and everyone else in danger, not to mention their natural fear and untrust of us as humans. They are very elusive, so if it gets loose, then you have basically sent a scud missle out in public and better hope it doesnt hurt a kid. I don’t know how much Mal personality vs wolf personality will be dominant in your dog, but if it is really bred with a pure or close to pure wolf, then be assured that it will have enough wolf trait to concern you. If you would like to see some nice photos of my friends wolves, I have many I can send you. You will notice my petting and being face to face with one of them, which is the only one that even I can be near that is “Doggy”. The pic will also show how big these things can be. They tower over malimutes. Here is a link i threw a few photos of us at his house with a few of the wolves. the only one that is not a wolf is the solo photo of one of my huskys standing in front of the privacy fence. that was an accidental add. All of these wolves are mixed with either malimutes, or sheppards. You can tell which are mixed with which pretty easily. also, I forgot to mention that they are expensive to feed. BTW, I live in Michigan where these wolves are and they (hybrids) are LEGAL, but you have to have special permits to have them and meet alot of saftey requirements
And a little off topic, but to make mention about the common mis-perception about huskys and Mal’s being descendants of wolves. That is not true either if you were ever wondering. They are not genetically descendants of them. You will hear people from time to time that say they are.
