What position is most important to a defense?
Correct me if I’m wrong but it is widely held that the quarterback is the most important factor in how successful an offense is. Which position on the defensive side of the ball is most important? I think a case could be made for a lot of positions and I personally can’t decide.
Is it the MLB, the field general who is in charge of filling up any holes a running back might have?
Is it a DT, the frontline man whose job is to disrupt to flow of the offense at the snap of the ball?
Is it a DE, whose primary duty is to tackle to QB, the most important player on the other side of the ball?
Is it a safety, who must prevent any homerun plays while also contributing to the run defense?
I really don’t know, you tell me.
I would have to pick MLB. If you take a look at all of the great defensives in nfl history they all had a great MLBS. For example in the 2000 ravens defense Ray Lewis, the 1985 Bears defense Mike Singletary. The MLB is the the quaterback on defense.
