Drop Sinks
New sink not fitting snuggly in old sink opening. How can it be stabilized and secured so it will not slip?
This is a drop in sink with vanity. New sink in 21 inch, old was 19 inch. However the cutout area has enough size so that the new sink moves around. The old sink had clips to secure it to the vanity underside. New sink does not. Need some way to secure new sink before hooking up all the lines. Thanks for any suggestions.
…before you caulk, apply a rubber gasket around the inside of the hole that overlaps the top edge.. test to set how well the sink fits
(FYI,…I prefer rubber, however, you could use the black pipe insullation “foam stuff” that comes in 8′ lengths and already has a slit down the side….the slit is so it can slip over the length of a pipe easily…it will also slip over the sink hole edge)
Anyway, whatever material use choose to use, once you are satisfied with the “fit”…pull the sink back out and
…then use a small amount of “liquid nails” to spot glue the gasket firmly in place…
…then apply a liberal amount of caulk over the gasket….set the sink into the hole and press firmly…with your finger, wipe the excess caulk to leave a nice smooth bead around the exterior edge
….hook up the lines, but let it dry 12-24 hours before splashing any water outside around the edges
FYI, if it were me, i recommend a metal strip attached to the drain of the sink, that reaches to the bottom of the cabinet, where I would screw the strip to the bottom of the cabinet to be absolutly sure the sink never jumep up out of the hole…like if a child ever pulled up on the sink.
