Can I use drop cloth plastic under the dirt?
I’m making a rock garden and I live on a old horse pasture there is alot of alfalfa and clover here. I read on a How to poject that this person used news paper under her dirt to kill the the grass and weeds. The alfalfa has roots that go down to China if you know what I mean. So I thought that I would use that thin painter’s drop cloth plastic. Do you think it would be all right? Or would it do ender to my garden?
I’ve used plastic for years around bushes and rock gardens with shrubs and perennials. just cut holes where you want to plant things. I’ve never had a problem with weeds coming through it and the water finds it’s way to the holes where the plants are coming out. You shouldn’t have any problems. I’ve tried the landscape fabric and it doesn’t work as well and degrades after a few years. Good Luck!
