Why this Fluorescent light is not operating properly with an inverter?
Had an extra fluorescent light in storage, figured I would use it in the Cargo Van I just bought.. The light is about 3 1/2 to 4 feet long, probably has two ballasts. Has a plug.. When I plug it in my van with a 2k watt inverter, it flashes or blinks continuously and constant. When I plug it into a regular home 110 volt house outlet, it works fine. When I use a regular incandescent lamp with a 60 watt bulb, that works fine. When I use a grinder or power drill, those both work fine, also. It’s just this fluorescent light that acts funny.

The inverter is probably outputting a square wave (low cost inverters usually do that). That will not affect many loads, but when the square wave voltage goes to zero for a half-cycle, the arc in the lamp extinguishes and may take several cycles to start again. You would need to get a sine-wave inverter to run the fluorescent lamp.
