What is the best stain or wax used to make furniture look old and rustic?
I want to know for furniture and exterior doors. Thank you.
Depending on how hardy you want to go there are several things you can do to the distress of antique furniture before. 1. Use an old belt or a board and a hammer five or six different finishing nails through the size and use of this tool lightly strike wood in random areas of furniture. screwdriver too much work to strike at different angles. You can be creative and use a piece of wood to try different items and see what kind of depression they leave. 2. If the items are finished, you can proceed to sand the edges down Does the wood by woodpeckers. Just try to sand with the grain to avoid false seeks sanding marks. 3. If you want to spend the additional step sanding you can apply multiple layers of paint and sand through the different areas after dry or wipe dry places. Let dry before step follows. 4. Use a type of gel stain which is thicker and built more quickly and apply with a cloth and wipe gently with the grain to remain in stain marks distress and crevices and corners. After extending an impact go to the next step. Allow to dry before the next step. 5. If the finish is impervious to water is desired (for exterior doors or bathroom vanities for example) apply a varnish outside and then after drying with antique wax to desired patina is achieved. 6. Enjoy your good work.
