Why are citrate blood collection tubes color coded specifically and universally light blue?
Are there any international norms for color coding blood collection tubes? If yes why specifically light blue for citrate, lavender for edta etc. Please let me have the links for the explanation if you know of any.
Why not? It’s just the way that they designed it when they first started making the test tubes that they decided to make all of the certain types of tubes the same universally colored tops. They could have just as easily made the citrate blood collection tubes colored orange… or green. The color itself doesn’t matter, as long as the same color is used universally for each test type.
After all, if they were sent to a lab for testing, wouldn’t it be easier for that lab to sort them into the proper testing area if they were all the same color? It makes it more efficient and helps the lab to make sure they aren’t doing the wrong test much easier. Personally, I think it was a great idea that they did it, just for the testing facility
