How do I find the vertical beam circuit board in a TV?

I have a 31″ JVC television. It was given to me not working (single white line running horizontally across the screen). I took off the back and blew the dust off the circuitry and it started working for the most part. Every once in a while, the screen will compress to a solid line and a tap on the side fixes it.

I have discovered that this is probably caused by a dry solder in the vertical beam circuitry, but I cannot find a circuit board labeled with anything similar. I have found the audio circuit, etc., but no vertical beam.

Does anyone know the approximate location, or the circuit board label of this so I can begin to look for loose resistors and such? If I could get a location with a reference point of looking in the back of my TV: back right, upper left, on the back of the picture tube, etc.

You must be Canadian….only they describe cracked solder connections as “dry”…..

Here’s a couple tips to find that vertical output IC ……
First it’s normally a 5 pin to 13 pin IC found near the center of the board, not found on the outside edge of the left or right side. It’s located near the yoke plug…the one with the red/blue/green/yellow wire….it’s thick wire with a big black plug on it….LARGER than all the other plugs…that’s because the PINS are larger too.

Look at the yellow / green plug….those are the vertical connects….trace them to the vertical output where you’ll find the cracked connections..

Now…..you know what the IHVT is? That’s the HIGH VOLTAGE transformer….SOME older TV sets use the 28 Volt line from that transformer to supply the Vertical output…and there is a resistor and diode to create that power….find it and solder it…..

Now, you can find a TV tech and he’ll do it for around $100… BEFORE you damage the vertical output and taking out the power supply too…..which will cost an additional $ 40 to $50.
